This is an extra special post because my youngest sister and her husband are anxiously awaiting the arrival of their first child, a little girl. It is hard to imagine my baby sister having a baby of her own but I couldn’t be more thrilled for them and know they will be awesome parents. A couple weeks ago our family took a trip to Ojai, which was the perfect setting for her maternity photos. Green, lush and captivating, I was inspired at new heights and I am in love with the photos we took. Five more weeks until my niece is due!
Parents-to-be
I love doing maternity shoots. There is so much excitement and wonder, love and warmth to be captured. When I was asked to photograph a fellow photographer, I was flattered and nervous all at the same time. I wanted to do a great job for my friend and colleague. We did the shoot in her Malibu home and I love the photos we captured. Here are some photos we took:
A very special experience.
Several months ago I had an experience that moved me in a way that I had never felt before. I was booked to shoot a maternity session for a woman who had gone into labor that morning. She expressed how she really wanted to do the session despite her pain and situation since the photos were really important to her. I came to her house and we did our best to shoot the photos through her contractions and pain (looking at the photos you would never know she was in labor!!) We did not do a lot of talking since she was intensely laboring at that point, so I shot between contractions and took breaks frequently.
About half way into the shoot, midwives arrived to the home to set up for a home birth delivery. At that point I did not know she was planning to do a home birth. They asked if they could take her in the other room to check her progress and see if the baby was coming. A few minutes later, her husband approached me and said that the baby would be arriving any minute and would I mind sticking around and taking a few pictures of her delivery. This was something that caught me off guard and I was really unsure. I agreed to stay but told him that this would be a first for me (especially since I had a c-section with my daughter and had never seen a birth before). It was a blur from that point on. Everything happened so quickly and I snapped pictures as much as possible while experiencing the miracle of life. As I watched a baby come into the world, I cried and snapped pictures and couldn’t believe what I had just been a part of. I took photos for several minutes after the baby was born and then I left the family to enjoy their newest little bundle of joy. A week later I was invited back to do newborn pictures and photograph the family.
This journey touched my heart in a special and life changing way. I am pregnant with my second and due any day now and it was this experience that is making me hopeful to have a v-bac with my own delivery so I can have this incredible journey with my own family. Here are the photos we took: maternity, delivery and then newborn pictures:

pure joy.
When I photographed newborn baby Ella and her parents a few weeks ago, she was sleepy and such a joy to work with. Ella was an angel and her parents were warm and really nice to work with. We started out doing family shots and finished up with a little sleeping beauty. We took some beautiful photographs, here are my selects from the shoot:

I recently photographed a beautiful newborn baby girl named Violet. She was tiny and sleepy and such a little cutie. We did a bunch of different poses while she slept. This was a wonderful shoot and I am crazy for the photos we took! Here are the images I chose:

from belly to baby.
Awhile ago I had the pleasure of photographing a couple who were anxiously awaiting the arrival of their precious baby girl. We did the maternity session in their home and the photos came out beautifully. A few weeks later they were blessed with an adorable daughter named Ryan. She was simply perfect in every way and these parents were truly in love. It was such a pleasure to do belly and baby photos for this loving family, here are some of the photos we took:

simply radiant.
My dear friends are expecting their first baby and I was thrilled to do their maternity portraits. Their excitement was compelling and I know they are going to be incredible parents. We shot in their new home which was a picture perfect setting for the photographs. We did a variety of outfits and poses and even took some pictures with their sweet kitty Muffin. Here are some of the photos we took. It was so hard to narrow it down, they are some of my favorites to date!
