As the holiday mini sessions are starting, I am looking back on those captured last year with pride and joy. After I capture photos, I put them aside for some time, so as not to spoil them for my clients. I want you to be the first to show them off to family and friends. Whether it be on social media, birth announcements, or holiday cards, I can appreciate the element of surprise and would never want to spoil it. It is not easy to do since I really love showing them off but it is always worth the wait. I also think it is important to note that I never post images online without permission. Your privacy is of the utmost importance and I completely respect that it is your choice. I am always grateful to be able to showcase the families I capture! Here is a beautiful family I photographed last fall in one of my holiday mini session photography shoots. So many wonderful moments captured!
I feel as though I have grown up with this family. I have had the pleasure of capturing their crew since their first born was a toddler and have watched their family grow ever since. I have watched their bonds grow, their personalities shine, it is really something special to be a part of capturing pictures within their family unit. Their youngest was such a personality, full of energy and expression! She keeps them on their toes, in the most wonderful way. Their son has always been a bit more reserved but with a kind nature and maturity beyond his years. Their eldest daughter loves to laugh and play but with poise and grace. I feel so fortunate to make such special connections with families over the years!
Often times people who have never done a family photography session are unsure what to expect. It can be stressful planning the clothing, getting ready and to the shoot on time, picking a time of day that works best for schedule and kids temperaments, etc. Then the uncertainty of how kids will respond to being photographed is another factor. I get it completely and try to do my best on my end to make it as easy on parents as possible. I like to encourage laughter and play during the shoot to make it feel less like work and more like fun to the children. I find that brings forth the best and most genuine smiles. The kids in this session were so much fun and brought an energy that made my job easy. They laughed, ran, played and I clicked away. I think we captured a nice mix of portraits and play which is always my favorite approach to a family session!
Travel town is a cool old location that has been around for ages and is a perfect shoot location for young kids and toddlers. This little one loved exploring the trains and was completely in his element. Choosing a location that kids can be comfortable and themselves is a great way to capture their true personality. Here are some photos we took at this amazing location!
I have been so lucky to photograph Lia and Nate throughout their lives, first Lia as a baby, then Lia as a toddler, Nate as a newborn (and Lia as a big sister) and then again for this fun family shoot with both kids walking and on the move! We started out the session in the family home, each of the kids taking turns getting photographed and playing with balloons. We did a family portrait in the house and then went for a walk to UCLA where we did some great outdoor shots! It was so fun to see the kids run and play together and to see how they have grown and changed through the portrait sessions. There were so many fun photos we took, here are some of my favorites:
