Photographing precious newborn babies is such fun for so many reasons. As a mom, I am no longer in the “baby phase” of life and I miss those tiny little humans. I get my fix each and every time I get to photograph a newborn. I also absolutely love watching parents in the early stages of parenthood. There is such a newness, a love that is so rich and full- and I get to capture it for them. This sweet baby girl was perfectly sleepy throughout her session with me. I love the pictures we took and had such a great time documenting the love in this home.
Often I am asked what to wear in family photos. It is hard to answer since there are so many different directions you can go and look great. Back when I was growing up it was popular to have all the family in jeans and matching white shirts or everyone dressed in one color. While that is still done and continues to look great,, it seems that many people are getting a little more fashion forward with their choices by mixing colors/tones giving each person an individual look but all together still well coordinated. I find that selecting 3-4 colors or tones and mixing it up for each person is a wonderful way for everyone to have an individual look but collectively to have a well-coordinated photo.
Ultimately, these are your photos to love and enjoy, so I think it is important that you choose clothing that makes you feel good and reflects your style. If you are the kind of family who likes to dress casually in life then that is perfectly acceptable for a family photo! If you want to make it more of a special occasion type attire that is also great! Whatever makes you happy and love the photos, I think that is the best way to go. If ever you need help, I have visual references for my clients who need a little direction or inspiration.
Here is a photo session I did this summer for a family who always does a great job of styling their shoot. I love the pale purple, blue and white palate they chose. Each person has a great individual look but together they all go well as a group too! I love that the little girl’s dress ties all the colors together and the pattern is not too distracting because it is surrounded by solids. Here are my favorites from their at-home family photo shoot!
When a friend reached out about capturing photos of her kids in a creative way that expressed the stages of childhood they were in, I got really excited. She had such sweet and wonderful ideas and I was really excited to create some magic. Her daughter is really into princesses and loves to dress up so she had the idea of a laundry line of princess gowns. This idea was something I would have loved to do with my daughter but never did so I jumped at the idea! Her sweet son loves books and reading, bubbles and cars so we played around with various props. I played a bit with the color and feel of the images and here is what we created!
Sweet little Jemma was so tiny and amazing at her newborn session. We started with family and sibling shots which she was mostly awake for, then we did the sleepy newborn posed shots and she slept like a champ! We captured such a nice variety of photos and this family was so fun to work with. I really love newborn sessions because there is so much love to capture (and I get my newborn baby fix 😉) Here are the photos from this precious newborn session!
Holiday mini sessions are 30 minute photo shoots held in different places around Los Angeles on various days in the fall. Families sign up for a designated time and I shoot back-to-back sessions to capture families and kids for holiday card photos. Some people just use it as an excuse to have family photos taken, regardless of whether they actually mail out a card. It is a quick and easy way to have photos done and I shoot a lot in a short amount of time! This session was done last fall at the UCLA campus. I absolutely love the architecture and fall feel of the trees in this location. And how about this sweet family?! I loved the dance party photos in the quad- such fun!

This photo session was captured just before 4th of July in a park with a few festive decorations. This was my second session with this loving family and my first time meeting their daughter. It was late afternoon and the lighting was beautiful. We wandered around the park mixing portraits with play. I like to change it up throughout the session to capture a variety but also to keep kids having fun throughout. Here are my favorite photos from the day!
I completely respect my clients’ privacy which is why I always ask before using their photos online (blog, social media, etc). This family was fine for me to show a small sample of what we captured and I admire and respect that decision. I am always grateful to be able to show off my work and the amazing families I get to work with. Here are a few photos from this precious newborn session!
I absolutely love when families want to do something a little creative with their session. This mom sent me a photo from her oldest daughter’s first birthday shoot that they had done in the past and wanted something different but equally sweet and creative. So we came up with a few ideas to try at the session! We focused mostly on the 1st birthday girl but let mom and big sis jump into a few photos too. I love the fun-loving nature of these photos and seeing curiosity and joy through the eyes of a toddler. Here are my favorites!
Summer is by far my favorite season of the year. Life slows down a bit, the sun is shining and the days are long, we spend lots of time together as a family and as a mom I am more laid back. During this time I have tried to bring out my camera from time to time to capture these sweet times. Below are photos I took of my kids for 4th of July, my son eating an icee, and the kids playing on a slip n’ slide. These photos freeze time for me as a mom and I love catching it on camera.
I really love doing photo sessions outdoors when the sun is shining. For me, I love the bright, warm energy that sunny photos produce. There is a light quality with sunny days that I really love with family photos. These photos were captured on one of those sunny days at a local park. It was a great setting for the session so the boys could run and play, and enjoy the fountain with fish ducks and turtles, giving lots of opportunities to capture candid moments. Here are my selects from this bright sunny mini session!
