Beach Pregnancy & Home Newborn Sessions

I have been lucky enough to get to photograph this beautiful family since their first son was born. When they contacted me to do a maternity and newborn session as they were expecting their second child, I was so excited! We did the maternity session at the beach around sunset and it was completely magical. The lighting and weather were perfect and their little boy was such a love. So many precious photos and I adore the color palate! The newborn session was done in-home (as they always are) and again, it was a wonderful session. Their boys both did an amazing job and I love the photos we captured! Here is a little taste of both sessions.

Paige Lauren Baby Planet Collection

Once again I have fallen behind on my blog posts. Life continues to be busy so it has been hard to find the time to update my blog. But here is a series of photos I captured for Paige Lauren Baby Clothing last fall. It was their Planet Collection and I really love the color palate. Happy New Year Friends!

It has been awhile since I have been on the blog- it was a really busy fall photographing families for their holiday cards and I had to take a break from blogging for awhile. Now I am back to a normal shoot schedule and I am excited to show you some of the photo sessions I captured. This is a family I have had the pleasure of photographing since their second child was born. They recently had a third and it was an amazing shoot. Beauty and laughter in B&W

As the holiday mini sessions are starting, I am looking back on those captured last year with pride and joy. After I capture photos, I put them aside for some time, so as not to spoil them for my clients. I want you to be the first to show them off to family and friends. Whether it be on social media, birth announcements, or holiday cards, I can appreciate the element of surprise and would never want to spoil it. It is not easy to do since I really love showing them off but it is always worth the wait. I also think it is important to note that I never post images online without permission. Your privacy is of the utmost importance and I completely respect that it is your choice. I am always grateful to be able to showcase the families I capture! The holidays are on the horizon…are you ready?

The holidays are a wonderful time filled with family, love, special events and parties, gifts, and celebration. But they can also be a stressful time for people getting ready- shopping, calendars filled with commitments, and so much more piled onto our already busy lives. Then there are holiday cards…do you send them out? For those who do this can be a daunting yet rewarding task. As much of a pain it is to take the photo, order/stamp/address and send the cards. But as much of a time consuming process as it is, it is so nice to receive them in the mail every year. I love seeing families and how the kids have grown. It is one of the only forms of mail that I really look forward to receiving anymore! I put them out in our home and the kids talk about them and look forward to adding new ones to the wall each day. It is a really nice tradition and is one that I hope never dies.

Below is a family session that I captured last year for the holidays. This was a weekday mini session done at a local park. I love the colors of the environment with the morning light combined with the light tones they are wearing. Extended Family Photo Session

It is fun when families want to do a big family photo shoot to capture the different dynamics within their group. This family did photos to celebrate their patriarch’s 90th birthday. We captured the whole group, great grandchildren with great grandpa, cousins, siblings, individual families, couples, and many other variations. We did the session at one of the family homes. It is a special way to get lots of photos to have and enjoy for years to come. Here are just a handful of the photos we captured to celebrate a beautiful loving family.

What to wear?

Often I am asked what to wear in family photos. It is hard to answer since there are so many different directions you can go and look great. Back when I was growing up it was popular to have all the family in jeans and matching white shirts or everyone dressed in one color. While that is still done and continues to look great,, it seems that many people are getting a little more fashion forward with their choices by mixing colors/tones giving each person an individual look but all together still well coordinated. I find that selecting 3-4 colors or tones and mixing it up for each person is a wonderful way for everyone to have an individual look but collectively to have a well-coordinated photo.

Ultimately, these are your photos to love and enjoy, so I think it is important that you choose clothing that makes you feel good and reflects your style. If you are the kind of family who likes to dress casually in life then that is perfectly acceptable for a family photo! If you want to make it more of a special occasion type attire that is also great! Whatever makes you happy and love the photos, I think that is the best way to go. If ever you need help, I have visual references for my clients who need a little direction or inspiration.

Here is a photo session I did this summer for a family who always does a great job of styling their shoot. I love the pale purple, blue and white palate they chose. Each person has a great individual look but together they all go well as a group too! I love that the little girl’s dress ties all the colors together and the pattern is not too distracting because it is surrounded by solids. Capturing the essence of childhood

When a friend reached out about capturing photos of her kids in a creative way that expressed the stages of childhood they were in, I got really excited. She had such sweet and wonderful ideas and I was really excited to create some magic. Her daughter is really into princesses and loves to dress up so she had the idea of a laundry line of princess gowns. This idea was something I would have loved to do with my daughter but never did so I jumped at the idea! Her sweet son loves books and reading, bubbles and cars so we played around with various props. I played a bit with the color and feel of the images and here is what we created!

Summer Park Session

This photo session was captured just before 4th of July in a park with a few festive decorations. This was my second session with this loving family and my first time meeting their daughter. It was late afternoon and the lighting was beautiful. We wandered around the park mixing portraits with play. I like to change it up throughout the session to capture a variety but also to keep kids having fun throughout. Here are my favorite photos from the day!

A little sneak peek
