I really look forward to maternity sessions for first-time parents. They are excited to become parents and are so happy to be capturing this beautiful time in their lives. This couple traveled a ways from home to do the session and they could not have been more lovely. We shot at a woodsy West LA park that was the perfect backdrop for this session. The couple were so sweet together and made my job very easy. Here are some favorite photos from our maternity session!
I have been lucky enough to get to photograph this beautiful family since their first son was born. When they contacted me to do a maternity and newborn session as they were expecting their second child, I was so excited! We did the maternity session at the beach around sunset and it was completely magical. The lighting and weather were perfect and their little boy was such a love. So many precious photos and I adore the color palate! The newborn session was done in-home (as they always are) and again, it was a wonderful session. Their boys both did an amazing job and I love the photos we captured! Here is a little taste of both sessions.
I am often asked when it is suggested to shoot maternity photos. I generally recommend 30-34 weeks, depending on how the mom-to-be is showing and feeling. There is a sweet spot where the pregnancy is still comfortable yet the mom clearly has a bump that can be seen. We don’t want to wait too long or baby could come early or mom could become a bit more immobile.
Newborn sessions are done in the baby’s first 14 days of life to ensure they are sleepy enough to capture those precious tucked up sleep shots. It is also the time before baby acne and dry skin start to appear. Here is a sample of a recent maternity and newborn sessions that I did for this loving family!
I recently had the pleasure of taking pictures of this gorgeous pregnant mama-to-be. She wanted to surprise her significant other with maternity photos so we did a variety of photos. We started indoors and worked our way to the beach. I had the best time getting to know this amazing woman and I absolutely love the photos. Here are my favorites from our photography session:
This is an extra special post because my youngest sister and her husband are anxiously awaiting the arrival of their first child, a little girl. It is hard to imagine my baby sister having a baby of her own but I couldn’t be more thrilled for them and know they will be awesome parents. A couple weeks ago our family took a trip to Ojai, which was the perfect setting for her maternity photos. Green, lush and captivating, I was inspired at new heights and I am in love with the photos we took. Five more weeks until my niece is due!
Photographing this beautiful couple was such fun as they were awaiting the arrival of their little angel. Shortly thereafter, I got to come back and photograph their son Graham as a newborn! They lived near the beach so we divided the maternity session between the beach and their home. Their sweet and energetic dog was thrilled to meet baby boy as they cuddled for photos together. Here are my favorites from the two shoots:
I recently photographed my beautiful sister, brother-in-law and nephew to capture this special time in their family as they await the arrival of their baby boy due in June. We went to the beach where my nephew Beckett could run and play. They are beach lovers (like me) so it was a perfect location for their shoot. I am in love with all their photos and couldn’t wait to show them the photos we took. Here they are:
Well, this shoot was done many months ago when this sweet family was expecting there third child. They have since welcomed their little girl to their loving crew. Big brothers Henry and George were full of energy, laughter and spirit. We did a mix of photos inside their gorgeous home and outdoors where boys can be boys. Here are some favorite moments captured:
I love doing maternity shoots. There is so much excitement and wonder, love and warmth to be captured. When I was asked to photograph a fellow photographer, I was flattered and nervous all at the same time. I wanted to do a great job for my friend and colleague. We did the shoot in her Malibu home and I love the photos we captured. Here are some photos we took:
This beautiful family welcomed me into their home to document a special time in their lives. They are expecting a baby and thought it was a perfect time to capture photos. They had recently moved into a new stunning home which was the perfect place to hold our session. We did a handful of shots indoors and did most of the shoot outdoors in their breathtaking garden. So many beautiful moments, here are a few of my favorites:
