As the holiday mini sessions are starting, I am looking back on those captured last year with pride and joy. After I capture photos, I put them aside for some time, so as not to spoil them for my clients. I want you to be the first to show them off to family and friends. Whether it be on social media, birth announcements, or holiday cards, I can appreciate the element of surprise and would never want to spoil it. It is not easy to do since I really love showing them off but it is always worth the wait. I also think it is important to note that I never post images online without permission. Your privacy is of the utmost importance and I completely respect that it is your choice. I am always grateful to be able to showcase the families I capture! Here is a beautiful family I photographed last fall in one of my holiday mini session photography shoots. So many wonderful moments captured!
Holiday mini sessions are 30 minute photo shoots held in different places around Los Angeles on various days in the fall. Families sign up for a designated time and I shoot back-to-back sessions to capture families and kids for holiday card photos. Some people just use it as an excuse to have family photos taken, regardless of whether they actually mail out a card. It is a quick and easy way to have photos done and I shoot a lot in a short amount of time! This session was done last fall at the UCLA campus. I absolutely love the architecture and fall feel of the trees in this location. And how about this sweet family?! I loved the dance party photos in the quad- such fun!

I really love doing photo sessions outdoors when the sun is shining. For me, I love the bright, warm energy that sunny photos produce. There is a light quality with sunny days that I really love with family photos. These photos were captured on one of those sunny days at a local park. It was a great setting for the session so the boys could run and play, and enjoy the fountain with fish ducks and turtles, giving lots of opportunities to capture candid moments. Here are my selects from this bright sunny mini session!
I feel as though I have grown up with this family. I have had the pleasure of capturing their crew since their first born was a toddler and have watched their family grow ever since. I have watched their bonds grow, their personalities shine, it is really something special to be a part of capturing pictures within their family unit. Their youngest was such a personality, full of energy and expression! She keeps them on their toes, in the most wonderful way. Their son has always been a bit more reserved but with a kind nature and maturity beyond his years. Their eldest daughter loves to laugh and play but with poise and grace. I feel so fortunate to make such special connections with families over the years!
How to dress for a family photography session is very personal and should speak to your unique style. While it is nice to coordinate and not clash, I do not like to dictate what to wear. Sometimes families dress in casual attire, while other times they get dressed up. These photos are ultimately yours to treasure, so I want my clients to dress as a reflection of who they are and what they love. Clothing can give confidence, comfort and style, all wonderful additions to family pictures. This family dressed so beautifully for their photo shoot, I absolutely love the color palate and sharp style they conveyed. I love even more that they were open to running around and playing even when dressed to the nines. To me, that is something special. Here are the magical photos we captured in this dressy yet playful session!
This gorgeous mama has been such a special part of my life since before I discovered my love of photography. We went to UCSB together and had lots of fun in our youth. My junior year I studied abroad and took a photography class. After graduation I decided to attend photography school at Brooks Institute of photography. This special friend let me use her as a model for my assignments in photography school. Fast forward to motherhood, I have had the privilege to capture the special times in their life as a family unit. This beach session was a lot of fun on this gorgeous Southern California day and it warms my heart to see the love and joy among them!
My amazing friend started a company called Platefit, a unique fitness experience, which is all the rage here in Los Angeles. It is a modern style workout using high intensity interval training done on individual Power Plates. During the holidays she joined my holiday mini session day at UCLA to get family photos taken, and then finished up with a handful of fitness photos for her company. I really love the pictures we took and really admire this strong and motivated mama for starting such an awesome fitness company. She is hard working and has a heart of gold. Here are the pictures we took!
It was a beautiful afternoon when we captured the love and sweet moments of this gorgeous family in this beautiful setting. Holmby Park is a go-to location for me as it is central to many of the families I work with and has such a nice variety of greenery and “looks”. The addition of the skateboards was a great and personal touch. There were many sweet moments with the boys and the family, a mix of candids and portraits. Here are my selects from our most recent mini session!
I love the color choices made by this family for their holiday mini session. It was colorful and so well coordinated and a combo I hadn’t seen before! We did the session at Temescal Gateway Park in Pacific Palisades on my 30 minute holiday mini session day and we captured lots of fun photos of this beautiful bunch. Here are my favorites from this session:
This year, for the first time, I offered holiday mini sessions in-studio. While I do not have an official studio space, I cleared all the furniture from my living room and set up a 9 foot white backdrop with studio lighting. I really love the simplicity and airy feel of studio. It is all about the connection and emotion of the people being photographed. This brother and sister duo were really sweet together. The icing on the cake was that they brought their newest family member “Pinkie” to the shoot and they were beyond excited to include her! Here are some favorites from our shoot, lots of cute photos in a quick 30 minute session!
