Last week I was given a once in a lifetime opportunity to travel to Kokomo, Fiji with a group of travel agents and document their trip. Kara Slater was the one who organized the trip we took and she is an amazing, hard working travel agent based in Los Angeles: Visit Kara’s Website We left on a red-eye flight on Fiji Airways which was an experience on its own. We flew on a new aircraft and first class travel made for a very pleasant and enjoyable trip. We arrived in Nadi, Fiji and took a sea plane to Kokomo. The pilots of the plane were barefoot and gave us an awesome air tour of the Islands we passed. When we arrived on the Private Island of Kokomo, we were welcomed by a large group of hotel staff who sang a welcome song, gave us the traditional Fijian leis and we drank from Coconuts. Wow….what a start! For the next four days, we discovered the Island and toured the Resort, swam in crystal blue waters, ate the most delicious meals I have ever had and went on incredible and memorable adventures. We bounced on a trampoline in the middle of the ocean, did yoga in an outdoor studio overlooking the island, went fishing and scuba diving, we took golf carts and boats to travel, hiked through the jungle to swim in a waterfall explored the breathtaking spa and got to experience all their was to do in this magical place. We stayed in a 6 bedroom Residence that sat high on the Island and had 360 degree views. I brought my 5D Mark IV, a GoPro underwater camera and a Drone and had fun playing with the various tools to capture our adventures. I am still glowing from such a fun and memorable trip and highly recommend adding this place to your bucket list of places to visit. Contact Kara Slater if you have any questions at all!
I recently photographed this loving mommy and her three precious girls as a Father’s Day gift for Dad. We met at the beach late in the day and simply let the girls play. Mom requested to capture a few portraits but to also focus more on real candid moments over staged pictures so we let the children be kids which is exactly how to capture the BEST childhood laughter and play. I love the bright airy quality of the light at this time of day and the clothes they wore were a perfect compliment. Here are the photos we captured on this magical day!
This gorgeous mama has been such a special part of my life since before I discovered my love of photography. We went to UCSB together and had lots of fun in our youth. My junior year I studied abroad and took a photography class. After graduation I decided to attend photography school at Brooks Institute of photography. This special friend let me use her as a model for my assignments in photography school. Fast forward to motherhood, I have had the privilege to capture the special times in their life as a family unit. This beach session was a lot of fun on this gorgeous Southern California day and it warms my heart to see the love and joy among them!
I really love when families book beach sessions. While there can be challenges at the beach such as wind-blown hair and sand in everything, there is really something magical about taking pictures with such a beautiful and simple environment. The photos are light and bright, the colors are subtle and it serves as a blank canvas for whatever you want to do! This family chose to wear denim and white and I always love how this looks. Clean and modern, simply beautiful. We started at their home and ended on the beach and it was a really great day.
For this family session we took pictures of two beautiful and very different locations. We started at Temescal Gateway Park in Pacific Palisades and popped down the street to the beach for a couple family pictures and a cake smash! This was wonderful because we got two totally different looks in one session and I got to spend some wonderful time getting to know this beautiful family. The cake smash was a huge success, sandy cake and all! Such a great day and so many photos that I love!
This extended family session was done on a perfect afternoon at the perfect time of day. It was crisp, clear and beautiful. This family was together for the holidays and they wanted to capture this time together, cousins, grandparents, siblings, and individual families. I really love the clothing they chose and the simplicity of the beach. Check it out!
We started this family mini session bright and early to catch the most magical light and capture these little cuties when they were fresh. I have really enjoyed watching these children grow up through several sessions we have done together. We captured so many sweet moments in a quick 30 minute mini session, here are just a handful of my favorites from the shoot!
I recently had the pleasure of taking pictures of this gorgeous pregnant mama-to-be. She wanted to surprise her significant other with maternity photos so we did a variety of photos. We started indoors and worked our way to the beach. I had the best time getting to know this amazing woman and I absolutely love the photos. Here are my favorites from our photography session:
A year ago this week I photographed this amazing family at the beach in Malibu. We had a wonderful time running, playing and laughing while capturing life at the beach through children’s eyes. I have been lucky to watch these beauties grow before my lens and here are some favorites from another wonderful shoot:
